Job Description

• Position is for a Step Down Registered Nurse on a night shift schedule.
• Nurses are responsible for telemetry patient care, including independent measurement and interpretation of telemetry strips and cardiac rhythms.
• On the first day of orientation, nurses must pass a telemetry assessment (minimum 80%) covering cardiac rhythm interpretation, arrhythmia identification, and clinical interventions. Remediation is provided if needed.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State with primary source verification prior to start.
• Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.

Compliance and Background Requirements

• Unexpired government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID).
• Background check within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years; must be complete before start.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required prior to start.
• Nursys verification prior to start.
• Facility-specific documents must be reviewed and signed, including:

  • Code of Conduct
  • Patient Abuse Reporting
  • Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement
  • Orientation Packet Acknowledgement
  • Automated Dispensing Cabinet Security (required for Pyxis access)
• Annual Tuberculosis screening questionnaire and negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable.

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam completed within 12 months prior to start, signed by a licensed provider confirming ability to perform job duties.
• Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (approved mask types specified).
• Immunizations or proof of immunity required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years or declination)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or serologic titers)
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
  • Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or documented history)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
  • COVID vaccine records or declination
• 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant/rapid accepted).

Additional Requirements

• Two professional references within 3 years of hire.
• Skills checklist required.
• Compliance with New York State Nurse Aide Registry and Medicaid Exclusion List requirements.

Summary

This is a travel contract position for a Step Down RN working night shifts in New York. The role requires strong telemetry skills, current RN licensure, and multiple certifications including BLS and ACLS. Candidates must meet comprehensive background, health, and immunization requirements and pass a telemetry competency assessment on orientation.
