Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT)

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Schedule Details: Weekdays and some weekends; floating within facility and sister facilities as needed

Job Description

• Provide respiratory care for critical care and general care patients, including adults, pediatrics, and neonatal intensive care (NICU) populations
• Must have some pediatric and NICU experience
• Floating to sister facilities required
• Block scheduling accommodations possible but not guaranteed

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in West Virginia
• Minimum 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
• Experience working with Pediatric patients
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA only
  • NALS (Neonatal Advanced Life Support) – AHA only

Additional Requirements

• First-time travel therapists accepted
• Weekend work required
• Pending state license accepted
• Must submit Return to Work (RTO) requests two weeks prior to schedule and get manager approval
• Must complete annual skills checklist for specialty, including MS/Telemetry skills if applicable
• One professional reference required from a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within the last year

Orientation & Training

• Orientation occurs every other Monday, lasting two days (Thursday and Friday)
• Orientation includes Cerner Infusion Management training
• Must complete required inservice training modules (approx. 4 hours) one week prior to start
• Pass/fail testing required for certain specialties (not applicable to Respiratory Therapist)
• Scrubs provided
• Free parking for travelers

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by a licensed provider, confirming good health and no physical limitations
• Annual fit mask testing required (3M N95 1860 Small or Regular and Aura 9205 only)
• Required vaccinations and documentation:

  • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) vaccination or approved exemption
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity via vaccination or titers
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or documented immunity/declination with follow-up
  • Varicella vaccination or immunity
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (mandatory during flu season)
• Drug screening within 30 days of start, including a comprehensive panel (no placeholders or pending results accepted)
• COVID-19 vaccination is not mandatory; proof of vaccination or signed declination accepted

Background & Compliance Checks

• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
• National and international criminal searches if applicable
• SAM and OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated annually
• Sex offender search within 30 days of start, updated annually
• Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start

• Facility type: Short Term Acute Care, Level IV Trauma Center, major teaching hospital
• Total staffed beds: 838
• Charting system: Cerner
• Floating within scope to meet facility needs

Notes for Candidates

• Locals within 75-100 mile radius considered
• Guaranteed hours: 72-80 per pay period
• Must comply with facility dress code and time & attendance policies
• Required to complete facility-specific documents and forms prior to start
