Registered Nurse - PCU (Night Shift) - Ohio, Toledo

Job Details

  • Position: Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 - 7:15)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
  • Unit Type: Mixed unit including PCU, Medical-Surgical Telemetry, and Medical-Surgical
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4 on all shifts
  • Floating: Yes, within service line and between multiple nearby facilities as needed (units include Neuro/Stroke, Cardiac, Orthopedic, Trauma, Oncology, General Surgery, Urology/Vascular, Observation)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted if within 50 miles radius
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Absences greater than 7 days require management approval

Patient Diagnoses & Care Details

  • Common diagnoses: CHF, MI, AFIB, pre/post open heart surgery, pre/post cardiac catheterization, implanted defibrillators/pacemakers
  • Overflow patients may include alcohol withdrawal, GI bleeds, pulmonary patients (including high flow oxygen)
  • Cardiac drips and multiple cardiac medication drips managed (e.g., heparin, nitro, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, argatroban, dopamine, dobutamine, Remodulin/Flolan)
  • All patients are on telemetry; nurses manage their own central monitors
  • Use of safe patient handling equipment and EKG machines
  • IV insulin protocols and heparin protocols in place

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience
  • First-time travelers: Accepted
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Certification (all AHA-approved provider, instructor, or RQI cards accepted)
  • Licensure: Valid RN license for Ohio (primary source verification required)
  • Competency Exams:
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (annual, pass/fail)
    • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • References: Two professional references within 2 years; at least one from a leader (Charge RN or above)
  • Skills Checklist: Required for all candidates

Compliance & Background Checks

  • 7-year background check covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in last 7 years, including sex offender and international searches if applicable
  • Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Fingerprinting required for certain units; for Ohio, BCI and FBI fingerprint results within 12 months of start are required if applicable
  • Education verification required; international candidates may submit diploma and license verification if third-party verification is unavailable

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within last 12 months (latex-free PPE available)
  • N95 fit test within 12 months of start, updated annually (onsite fit test exceptions possible with approval)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 3 months of start; annual updates required
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (series, positive titer, or declination)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (declination accepted except for certain pediatric facilities)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); declinations not accepted during flu season
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable unless on prescription medications)
