Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in a secure corrections health unit environment with locked access controlled by Corrections Officers.
- Float between Oncology Medical-Surgical (MS) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) as needed.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3 in PCU, 1:4-5 in MS.
- Shift: Night shifts, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM). Rotating day/night shifts possible depending on department needs.
- Oncology experience preferred but not required.
- EPIC charting experience is required.
- Weekend shifts vary based on unit requirements.
Patient Population & Care Focus
- Patients with active oncology diagnoses and treatments (solid tumors, hematology).
- Oncology workup admissions and patients with history of cancer admitted for other reasons (e.g., surgical procedures, COPD, sepsis, pneumonia).
- Non-oncology diagnoses as well.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide care on Oncology Medical-Surgical and Telemetry units.
- Ensure staff safety in a secure corrections environment.
- Manage telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias.
- Administer IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis care, and renal failure management.
- Perform IV therapy including blood product administration, central/peripheral line and PICC line management, and starting IVs.
- Manage medications including heparin protocols, cardiac drips (no titration), and PCA.
- Provide respiratory care including CPAP/BIPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula, ABG interpretation, oxygen therapy, non-invasive airway management, and tracheostomy care.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, respiratory services, social services, and rapid response teams.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum years of experience: 1 year in Med Surg / Telemetry within the last year.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete unit-specific competency exams.
- Must comply with facility dress code and hand hygiene policies.
- Required to complete fraud, waste, and abuse training and sign confidentiality and compliance forms.
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
Systems & Tools
- Documentation: EPIC electronic health record system.
- Medication dispensing: Pyxis system.
Work Environment
- Secure corrections unit with a Corrections Officer to inmate ratio of 1:2.
- Locked unit with controlled access.
- Staff safety is a priority due to the corrections environment.
This position offers a challenging and dynamic environment for RNs comfortable with corrections health care and telemetry/medical-surgical nursing, with opportunities to work across oncology and non-oncology patient populations.

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
