Radiation Therapist Travel/Contract Position

Location: Irvine, California
Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Treats approximately 60-70 patients per day using advanced radiation therapy equipment including TrueBeam, Ethos, and MRI-LinAc.
  • Patient population primarily adult/geriatric with occasional adolescent cases.
  • Works within a multidisciplinary team including Radiation Therapists, Dosimetrists, Physicists, RNs, Physicians, and support staff.
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 5 shifts per week, 8 hours per shift. Hours vary between 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM based on unit needs and traveler availability.
  • No weekends or on-call required.
  • Documentation performed in EPIC system.
  • Orientation: Approximately 3 shifts, with additional orientation as needed.
  • Grey scrubs required (not provided).
  • First-time travelers are welcome.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Radiation Therapist license in California
  • Minimum 3 years of Radiation Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in Radiation Therapy (ARRT T)
  • Experience in an outpatient setting

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience in teaching hospital settings.
  • CT simulation and custom molds fabrication.
  • Treatment of gynecomastia, keloids, superior vena cava syndrome.
  • Assisting with intracavity/interstitial administration.
  • Experience with various cancer types including Hodgkin’s lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, kidney, leukemia, pancreatic, and testicular cancers.
  • Familiarity with Siemens, Varian 21 ex/ix, Varian Trilogy, Vision RT systems.
  • Patient care skills including care of patients in restraints, emergency response (crash cart, defibrillators), lift/transfer devices, patient and family teaching.
  • Knowledge of billing for treatment types and devices, isolation precautions, and rapid response/code team protocols.

Required Documentation and Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Background checks within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including Social Security trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, and education verification.
  • Education verification and diploma/transcripts as applicable.
  • Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as required by specialty.
  • Physical exam within last 12 months.
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (with specific requirements for past positive TB history).
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
    • Hepatitis B series or positive titer (declination requires proof of non-immune status).
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer (declination requires notification and accommodations).
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel oral drug screen within 1 year of start.
  • Respirator questionnaire and annual respirator clearance required for respirator use. Fit testing will be completed onsite if clearance is on file.
  • COVID-19 booster or declination form required if booster not administered on or after September 2023.
  • Facility-specific forms including job description acknowledgement, health focus questionnaire, EHS information form, and exemption forms if applicable.

Additional Information

  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted.
  • Orientation and support provided to ensure smooth transition into the role.
  • No weekend or on-call shifts required, supporting work-life balance.
