Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Excelsior Springs, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Description

• Heavy swing bed patient population
• Patient-to-nurse ratios can sometimes reach 6:1
• No blocked schedules allowed (requesting blocked schedules will result in immediate rejection)
• ASAP start

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
• Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service
• Proof of E-Verify or attestation required
• Background checks including:

  • 7-year criminal history check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Social Security trace, county, nationwide, sex offender checks
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) results required (time sensitive)
• Missouri EDL Search completed prior to start

Certifications and Competencies

• BLS (ARC, AHA, or US Department of Defense accepted)
• ACLS (if applicable)
• Other certifications as required by unit (e.g., PALS, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification) may apply depending on assignment
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required to meet agency standards
• Core training including OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission annual training (signed attestation or testing acceptable)

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Initial physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands (updated annually)
• Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year of start; if past positive, clear chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire
• Immunizations or titers required for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required for 2024/2025 season (medical/religious exemptions accepted only with facility approval; declinations not accepted)
• Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within last 12 months or within 30 days of start

Additional Requirements

• Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
• Completed employment application/resume
• Skills checklist updated annually for applicable unit
• Performance evaluations if previously worked with the agency over 1 year (not required for this facility)
