Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)

Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 48


Job Description

  • Work in a Level I Trauma Center, Short Term Acute Care hospital.
  • Patient ratio approximately 1:12 using a team nursing model (effectively 1:6-7 shared among RNs, LPNs, and Med Nurses).
  • Schedule includes 4 consecutive 12-hour day shifts.
  • On-call and weekend shifts required as needed.
  • Weekend block scheduling may be considered but must be discussed during the interview.
  • Strict 100-mile radius rule for local candidates; locals are generally not accepted.
  • First-time travel nurses are not accepted unless they have 5+ years of specialty experience.
  • Level I Trauma experience and large hospital experience are required.
  • Prior travel experience is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Medical Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • One completed travel nursing assignment.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Level I Trauma experience.
  • ACLS certification.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or ARC certification required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA or ARC certification required.
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification: Required and must be renewed annually.
  • Other certifications such as PALS, TNCC, NRP, EFM may be required depending on specific unit assignments but are not mandatory for this role.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams and other core competency exams must be current (within 1 year).

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 60 days of start including statewide, county, federal, and education verification.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated annually.
  • Sex offender search and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search required.
  • Two recent professional references required.
  • Internal evaluation and skills checklist may be required if employed with the agency for one year or more.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands within 1 year of start.
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if positive, chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Proof of immunizations or positive antibody titers for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or signed declination.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30).
  • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start.
  • Fit test for 3M N-95 masks within 1 year of start (must pass with no limitations).

Facility & Uniform Guidelines

  • Scrub colors: Navy blue for RNs.
  • No prints or embroidered scrubs allowed.
  • Photo for badge required with strict guidelines (passport-style photo, no hats/headphones, no glasses glare, taken within last 6 months).
  • Confidentiality acknowledgment must be signed prior to start.

Additional Notes

  • Locals within 100 miles are not accepted.
  • All Return to Office (RTO) requests must be submitted with the initial application.
  • Block scheduling is generally not accommodated except possibly for weekends.
  • Candidates must be prepared for on-call and weekend shifts as needed.

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with trauma and large hospital experience who have prior travel nursing assignments and are ready for a fast-paced, acute care environment.
