Registered Nurse - Hospice

Location: Abilene, Texas Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Day, 3x12-hour shifts (10:00 to 22:00), Friday to Sunday Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week Parking: Available for orientation and after orientation, no fee

Role Details

• On-call required. Call is shared between 2 RNs each night and may or may not include triage calls or visits.

Required Qualifications

• Current, valid RN license in Texas (state license verification within 30 days of start)
• Minimum 2 years of hospice experience in an outpatient setting, including hospice experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA only; Instructor, Provider, and RQI accepted)
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current driver's license

Conditionally Required Certifications (as applicable to position)

• ACLS (AHA only; Instructor, Provider, and RQI accepted)
• PALS (AHA only; Instructor, Provider, and RQI accepted)
• NRP
• Chemotherapy certification
• TNCC
• EFM
• ENPC
• NIH Stroke Certification
• Pass/fail testing for telemetry RNs

Competencies and Orientation

• Color blind test (online version accepted)
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam, meeting the required passing score
• Competency exam, meeting the required passing score
• Online modules during orientation, about 3-4 hours
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement, updated annually
• Facility forms to review or sign before start, including the vaccination, TB, confidentiality, and code of conduct forms, among others

Health Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, completed within 72 hours of signing contract
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 72 hours of signing contract
• Negative QuantiFERON or T-SPOT within 1 year of start (or 2 PPDs within 1 year; positive responders need a negative chest X-ray within 5 years and an annual TB questionnaire)
• Rubeola (measles), mumps, rubella, varicella, and hepatitis B immunity within 72 hours of signing contract (positive titer or vaccine series, with boosters after any non-immune titer)
• Hepatitis B declination is accepted if there is no positive titer on file
• Tdap within 10 years of start
• Fit test with 3M 1860 Regular or 3M 1860S mask, updated annually (other masks require facility approval)
• Flu vaccine or exemption between October 1 and March 31

  • Medical exemption must be completed by a medical provider and approved by the client.
  • Religious exemption must be completed onsite at new hire appointment. If denied and the candidate refuses the vaccine, the candidate is ineligible for the contract.
• Drug screen: negative 10-panel drug screen with THC within 10 business days before start. The facility also tests on arrival, and a positive result is an automatic cancellation. Avoid CBD products.

Background and Compliance Checks

• 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually, including SSN trace, county, national, OFAC, sex offender registry, and highest-level education verification
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Texas DADS Employability Status Check within 30 days of start
• Texas Employee Misconduct Registry check within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
