I’ve worked at many hospitals over the years and Hendrick MC was a cultural shock. Sometimes I wondered if there is any leadership running this place. The unit I worked in never had enough basic medical supplies, IV pumps or IV poles, so we always had to go on a scavenger hunt. After a patient is discharged, the dirty room would remain dirty for an entire day unless they need a stat clean for a new admission. They chart that “patient/ family refused” SCDs because they did have enough machines. 
For a healthcare system that bought out all other smaller hospitals in Abilene and surrounding areas, it’s a shame that they do not invest in adequate and proper medical equipment for patient care. They sure do not follow their mission statement “to deliver high quality healthcare emphasizing excellence and compassion consistent with the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. We strive to embody the mission of Hendrick not only in our workplace, but within our community, as well.” I feel sorry for the residence in Abilene.  Since Hendrick monopolized the healthcare system here, they have no competition, so they do whatever they want. Patients testified that healthcare in Abilene went from bad to worse after Hendrick bought out all other hospitals. 
If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t care about infection control or high quality care for your patients, then you’ll like the lax atmosphere here. If you like to be in a clique, take a pick. Their staff spend more time on their cell phones than patient care duties. When the concern was brought up to the manager, she said to let the charge nurse know. Well, the charge nurses’ behaviors are no different than the rest of the team. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Some other units were not as bad. They had some good nurses and techs that did their jobs well and genuinely care about the patients. 
Oh and if you don’t mind the infestation of roaches, ants, and bedbugs, then no worries. Enjoy your time here.
