Job Details

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Identification: I9 or Attestation, Driver’s License or Government-issued photo ID, Social Security Card (if used for I9)
  • Background Checks:
    • Must be completed within 90 days of start
    • Includes SSN Trace, counties lived/worked/schooled in last 7 years, alias searches, nationwide, sex offender, international (if applicable)
    • Education verification required for certain specialties
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 90 days
    • OFAC Sanctions List Search required within 30 days of start
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (AHA only) required for all clinical/patient-facing candidates
    • ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, and other certifications as applicable (refer to unit description)
    • National tech certifications required where applicable (e.g., ARRT, NBSTSA, NBRC, ARDMS)
    • CEUs and pass/fail testing required for some specialties
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 12 months of start
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap every 10 years
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive titers required (no exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer required
    • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required for new candidates starting October through March (no exemptions)
    • Fit mask (N95) required for certain specialties
    • Polio vaccine or attestation required
  • References: Two professional references required from employment within 12 months of start; at least one must be a supervisor
  • Employment Application: Required with 7 years of work history
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems.
  • Competency checklists (CBOs) must be completed within 3 weeks after start date.
  • Online orientation modules must be completed prior to starting orientation.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training provided during orientation for applicable units.
  • Pass/fail testing (EKG/Medication) is conducted at orientation; remediation and retesting policies apply.
  • Flu vaccine is strictly enforced with no exemptions or declinations accepted.

This position is suitable for nurses with at least 1 year of experience, holding a valid NC or Compact license, and who are comfortable working in an outpatient adult clinic setting with a 1:5 patient ratio. The role does not require weekend or on-call shifts.
