Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Patient care in Medical/Surgical Overflow area with acute care inpatients requiring medical/surgical, telemetry, or IMC level of care.
- Manage antiarrhythmic drips without titration.
- Ratios: 1:4 for stepdown; 1:5 for MS/Tele.
- Must interpret cardiac rhythms and conduct NIHSS assessments as ordered.
- Experience with CVAs, feeding tube care and management, accessing ports/central lines/peripheral lines/PICC lines, starting IVs.
- Manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration).
- Wound care and wound vac management.
- Float within skillset when not needed in home unit.
- No block scheduling.
- Must have availability for half of winter holidays and work every other weekend plus holiday (Friday/Saturday).
- First-time travelers accepted.
- Locals accepted.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years acute care experience.
- At least 1 year PCU experience.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable. Required for MS/Tele, PCU, L&D, Adult Critical Care, ED, Outpatient Surgery.
- NIH Stroke Certification – Required for adult critical care specialties, ED, Tele, MS/Tele, Cath Lab units. Must be updated annually.
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam – Required for all RNs & LPNs within 12 months of start.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Required for ED, MS/Tele, Telemetry, PCU, Observation Units, IMC, Step-Down, all adult critical care units, PACU, Cath Lab, Educators.
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) – Pharmacology and Basic EKG exams required for clinical staff in specified units.
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO) – confirm with program coordinator.
Licensure & Documentation
- Valid RN license with legal last name matching documentation.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
- 2 references within last 2 years (one managerial).
- Background check within 30 days of start, including aliases and all locations worked/lived in past 7 years.
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine screen).
- Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility requirements.
- Respiratory medical clearance and fit test required prior to start.
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Color blindness test if job tasks require color discrimination.
Work Schedule & Other Requirements
- Every other weekend plus holiday shifts (Friday/Saturday).
- Must be available for half of winter holidays.
