Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Alton, Illinois
Facility Type: Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Units in a Long-Term Care (LTC) Facility


Job Details

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Shift: Every other weekend rotation (weekend required upon request)
  • Patient Ratios: Direct patient care for up to 20 residents; average daily census 72
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Attire: Any shade of blue scrubs

Experience & Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
  • Licensure: Must have license in hand to submit; proof of license required before starting
  • Certifications Required:
    • IV Certification (must have before starting)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: Not applicable

  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required upon center request

Job Description & Special Requirements

  • Work primarily in skilled nursing and rehab units that function similarly to Med-Surg units
  • Rehab experience with strong Med-Surg and acute care background is helpful but not mandatory
  • Dementia training or experience is highly recommended
  • Must provide excellent customer service and work closely with CNAs/HCAs
  • Use of special lifting equipment required
  • Care includes specialized medical and rehabilitation services for dementia and surgical patients, including IV medications and wound care

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks required within 1 year of start, including SS trace, county searches (7 years), nationwide sex offender, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG
  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually (can be completed by NP or PCP)
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine record or declination within past 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step TST, Qgold/Tspot, or chest X-ray for positive PPD)
    • TB questionnaire if positive TB test
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines, with booster options)
    • Hepatitis B declination form required
    • Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, history of chickenpox, or declination)
  • Drug testing: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months; instant tests acceptable; cannot start with pending drug screen
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required (with proper documentation)
  • COVID-19 vaccination required prior to start; medical/religious exemptions accepted with testing requirements for Illinois candidates (2x weekly testing)
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years of start
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • Unit-specific competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exam required

Additional Notes

  • Must provide proof of license at submission; pending licenses accepted only with proof
  • Requests for time off (RTO) must be approved at time of submission; not approved after offer
  • Cannot take every holiday off
  • Any call-outs require more than 24 hours’ notice
  • No on-site IV certification classes; must have IV cert from accredited program before starting

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable working in a skilled nursing and rehab environment with a focus on Med-Surg and dementia care. First-time travel nurses are welcome.
