Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical Unit

Location: Columbia, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Description

• 24-bed maximum capacity med-surg unit focused on at-risk patients
• Secured unit with enhanced safety features: whole-unit video monitoring, ligature alarms, anti-barricade doors, badge-secured entrance
• Floating required
• Rotating shifts with work required on holidays and during inclement weather
• Every other weekend schedule; option to discuss 36 or 48 hours/week during interview

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required
• Trauma Level 1 experience preferred but not required
• First-time travelers are welcome (prior travel experience NOT required)

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC Provider card required for all RNs
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) NOT required for this unit
• Other certifications such as TNCC, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, CPI, or EFM are not required for this position

Physical Demands

• Active role requiring ambulating, reaching, and moving objects over 20 lbs
• Routine contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses

Work Requirements

• Ability to work full term at assigned location
• Ability to work assigned shifts, including weekends and at least 50% of holidays
• Ability to take call as needed

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year background check required within 60 days of start
• State-specific background checks and exclusions screenings required within 60 days
• Drug screening (7 panel) required within 60 days of start
• Primary source verification of RN license (NURSYS) required within 60 days
• Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) or Caregiver search must be on file within 60 days before starting
• Photo ID and proof of employment eligibility required
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, must be initiated within 48 hours of signing
• Fit mask test required within 1 year of start (exceptions apply)
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • Tdap vaccination within 10 years or approved exemption
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
  • Varicella immunity or vaccination
  • Hepatitis B series or positive titer (declinations not accepted for new candidates)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)

Documentation and Other Requirements

• Resume with minimum 7 years employment history, all gaps accounted for
• Two professional references within last 2 years
• Skills checklist updated annually
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement and HIPAA compliance required
