Job Opportunity: Surgical Services (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: Night position, Monday to Friday, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
  • Weekend Requirement: No
  • Number of ORs: 72
  • Average Daily Tray Volume: 700
  • Types of Cases Required: 80
  • Years of Experience Required: 2 years (minimum)
  • First-time Travelers: Will review 1st time travelers with Trauma I experience and at least 2 years’ experience
  • National Certifications Required: CBSPD or CRST (through HSPA, formerly IAHCSMM)
  • BLS Required: No
  • On-call Required: No
  • Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of care; no floating to sister facilities
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (local radius rule: 75 miles)
  • Pending State License Accepted: Yes
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days absence; within a 13-week contract, 2 or more attendance issues (absences or tardies) considered excessive
  • Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
  • Earbuds/Cellphones: Not allowed during shift

Required Credentials & Compliance

Licensure & Certifications

  • Missouri state license (Primary Source Verification required)
  • National certification: CBSPD or CRST
  • BLS: Not required
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (refer to facility/unit specifics)

Background Checks & Verifications

  • Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM quarterly checks
  • HHS/OIG quarterly checks
  • Education verification of highest related education required
  • State-specific searches and registries as applicable (Missouri and Illinois)
  • Fingerprinting required for Illinois long-term care or rehab assignments (tracking only for this role)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold acceptable)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer, vaccination, or medical exemption required
  • Hepatitis B declination required (not vaccination)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Unit-specific competency exams required, updated annually
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam for Monitor Techs (if applicable)
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG/Medication for Monitor Techs (if applicable)

References & History

  • Two professional references required (supervisors within last year preferred)
  • Employment application required
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
