Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics - Travel/Contract

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts, every weekend required (EW)


Requirements

Licenses & Certifications

  • Indiana State License (IN license) must be in hand to submit (hard stop)
  • NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification required
  • ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • NRP (AHA Neonatal Resuscitation Program, required if placed in Labor & Delivery; can be obtained after offer)
  • PALS preferred (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • Education must be accredited by CoARC and regionally accredited by CHEA

Experience

  • Minimum 18 months recent experience in NICU or PICU required
  • Trauma 1 experience in a children's hospital within the last year required
  • Must have Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience (primary assignment in L&D)
  • Experience with ventilators: Servo I, Servo U, Hamilton G5

Unit & Floating Information

  • Primary units: NICU, PICU, or Pediatrics
  • Floating between NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics units expected
  • May also float to IU Health North Hospital

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs (except Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RNs) will not be allowed to work at IU Health facilities

Required Documentation & Compliance

Background Checks

  • Must include 7 years of lived/work history verification
  • Social Security Number trace, county, statewide, national sex offender, FACIS Level III
  • Education verification (highest applicable education)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 flu season (no declinations accepted)

Competency & Skills

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (not required for Techs or RRTs)
  • Unit competency exam required
  • Color blind testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, must be updated annually

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of IU Health mandatory RRT modules (21 modules) prior to orientation for RRT candidates
  • Completion of facility-specific compliance, confidentiality, orientation, and policy forms (time sensitive)
  • References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years; must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
  • Employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps of 30+ days

Summary

This travel contract position requires a licensed and certified Respiratory Therapist with strong NICU/PICU and L&D experience, including trauma experience in a pediatric hospital setting. Candidates must be prepared for floating between related pediatric units and meet strict licensing, certification, health, and compliance requirements. The contract is approximately 13 weeks with 12-hour shifts and weekend work. First-time travelers are welcome.
