Job Opportunity: LVN / LPN - Ambulatory Cardiology Practice

Location: Christiansburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

• Role: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in an outpatient cardiology setting
• Worksite: Medical Office Building on a hospital campus
• Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
• No weekend shifts required
• Charting system: EPIC (experience required)
• Floating: Required within skillset, including working in the electrophysiology (EP) side of the clinic
• Patient population: Adults and geriatrics, including newly diagnosed cardiac patients, post-cardiac procedures, and those on cardiac maintenance therapy

Required Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only)
• Virginia State or Compact LPN license required; pending licenses accepted only if from a non-compact state
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS)

Required Clinical Skills

• Cardiology outpatient experience with basic cardiology skills
• Proficiency in obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG
• Emergency response skills
• Cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, phlebotomy
• Patient rooming, managing prescriptions, patient callbacks, and completing forms

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio can be as high as 1:22
• Work involves collaboration with board-certified cardiologists and bilingual staff
• Outpatient cardiac care integrated with hospital resources
• Diagnostic testing and telehealth appointments available

Licensing and Documentation Requirements

• Must provide I-9 or attestation
• Valid Driver’s License/State ID required within 48 hours of signing, with address verification for radius compliance
• E-Verify or attestation required
• Background check: 7-year history within 1 year of start, including education verification
• Additional background screenings (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) required within 30 days of start and for contract renewals
• Education verification of highest earned degree required
• Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
• Fit test within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
• Immunizations or positive titers required for measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, varicella
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Flu vaccination documentation or mask/declination form during flu season
• Two clinical references required
• Complete employment application and annual skills checklist

Additional Notes

• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
• First-time travelers may be accepted depending on experience
• No local radius rule acceptance
• Orientation includes review of safety manual and compliance paperwork
• HIPAA training and competency exams required as applicable
