Job Description

• ICU Registered Nurses needed for per diem shifts.
• Work settings include Neuro Intensive Care Unit and Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
• Must be willing and comfortable to float to lower acuity units as needed (Med-Surg, Med-Surg/Telemetry, Telemetry, ED Holding).
• Orientation is not provided; clinicians must be prepared to work independently and integrate quickly.
• Pre-start modules required: 8 hours.
• Shift: Days, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
• Pre-booking available via Shifts App; clinicians can submit availability for proactive marketing to facilities.
• Scrubs color: Navy Blue.
• MemorialCare separation period: 18 months (previous staff/travelers require facility approval).

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year recent experience as a staff ICU RN or 2 years as a travel ICU RN.
• Active RN license in California.
• BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Certification required.
• Epic experience required.
• Two professional references required, with at least one supervisor reference within the last 12 months.

• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for ICU and ER)
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Relias EKG Basic or Advanced depending on unit)
  • Color Blind Testing (annual)
  • Competency Exam (profession/specialty specific)

• Additional Certifications (as applicable):

  • PALS, NRP (refer to unit requirements)
  • State License Verification (primary source online verification)
  • NURSYS Verification for RN license
  • Pass/Fail Testing (Medication Calculation and EKG) - Not required for Per Diem

Orientation & Training

• No formal orientation provided; clinicians must be ready to start independently.
• Pre-start modules (8 hours) must be completed before starting.
• EPIC Education Certificate of Completion required before clearance; modules take approximately 8 hours.
• HIPAA Education Certificate of Completion required before EPIC modules.
• YouLearn Modules are not required for Per Diem.

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually).
• Fit mask (N95) test within 1 year, renewed annually. Fit testing arranged through Employee Health for Saddleback Memorial Medical Center.
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years, declination allowed)
  • Negative TB test (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD within 1 year, updated annually)
  • TB Questionnaire (annual)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (booster if low/equivocal titer)
  • Hepatitis B Surface Antibody titer (declination allowed if low/equivocal)
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (declination allowed if low/equivocal)
• Seasonal Flu vaccine required November 1 - April 30 (declination allowed).
• COVID-19 vaccine and booster are not mandatory; vaccination records still collected for Aya and LA County compliance.

Background & Documentation

• Standard background check within 1 year, updated annually (7-year search including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender).
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
• Employment application required.
• Unit-specific skills checklist required, updated annually.
• Annual internal evaluation by Aya if employed for 1 year or more.
• Two professional references required within 12 months.

Facility Specific Notes

• Aya Healthcare badge required.
• Clear headshot photo required for badge.
• Review MemorialCare policies on drug and alcohol, hand hygiene, dress and appearance, and hand hygiene specific to Saddleback.
• Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year (instant drug screen acceptable). Marijuana panel excluded due to California state law; saliva testing may be required if client mandates.
• Candidates must review and sign the Saddleback Registry Acknowledgement after receiving their employee ID number (N#).
