Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Description

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) - 41-bed progressive care trauma/telemetry unit.
  • Primarily adult patients recovering from traumatic injuries requiring surgical intervention.
  • Patient diagnoses include surgical trauma such as gunshot wounds, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4, flexing to 1:5 as needed.
  • Telemetry monitoring available for up to 14 patients.
  • Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary.

Schedule

  • 36 hours per week
  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
  • 6 weekend shifts every 6-week schedule

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with PCU experience within the last year
  • Minimum 2 or more years of travel nursing experience
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Information

  • Medication test required prior to start
  • Badge photo required before start (passport style, light background, no hats or sunglasses)
  • Online orientation modules must be completed within 72 hours of assignment
  • Respirator fit test will be completed onsite during orientation
  • Candidates must carry a valid driver's license for computer access setup and while on duty
  • Background checks and verifications must be current and compliant with facility requirements
  • Floating policy and contractor acknowledgment forms must be signed and updated annually

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not explicitly required, but 2+ years RN experience needed for first-time travelers
