Job Description
- Position: LPN Hospital Float
- Schedule: Every other weekend
- Float assignments include Burks, halls (subacute rehab), and Households units.
Unit Descriptions:
Household Units (HH) – Long-Term Care (LTC):
- Six units with 14 private bedrooms each.
- Central kitchen, den with books and TV, washer/dryer for residents’ clothing.
- HH 5-6 serve patients with dementia or cognitive impairments; staff must badge-in/out to prevent patient exit.
- Care tailored to individual likes, dislikes, routines, and needs.
Hall 1 – Subacute Care:
- 42-bed LTC unit with high complexity needs.
- Fast-paced environment with patients post-operation, stroke, cardiac, ambulatory rehab, and wound care.
Hall 2 – LTC/Memory Care:
- 50-bed LTC unit with varying acuity levels from high functioning to bedridden.
- Common diagnoses: diabetes, cardiac issues, dementia, behavioral concerns.
Burk 1 – Pulmonary Care:
- 17-bed LTC unit for chronic and acute illness care.
- Includes chronic trach patients.
Burk 2 – Ventilator Unit:
- 18-23 beds for patients with chronic, complex respiratory problems requiring ventilator support.
- Requires strong organizational and leadership skills to assess, intervene, and develop care plans.
- Special training required for ventilator care and alarm response.
Required Qualifications
- Valid LPN / LVN license in Maryland
- Minimum 1 year of Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
Prior Travel Experience

- Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually.
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to meet essential job functions.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire updated annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu seasonal vaccination (or approved exemption).
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Education verification and primary source license verification required.
- Unit-specific competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exam required.
- EKG/Dysrhythmia competency exam may be required depending on unit; must be renewed annually.
- Stroke and Trauma CEUs may be required depending on unit assignment; must be current.
- Facility-specific policies (floating, time and attendance) must be reviewed and signed.
- Photo for badge and parking registration required prior to start.
- Consent to release information must be completed before start.
Additional Notes
- Special training required for ventilator care on Burk 2 unit.
- Staff must be able to recognize and respond to patient cognitive and behavioral needs, especially in dementia care units.
- Fast-paced and complex care environment, especially in subacute and ventilator units.
This position offers a diverse float assignment across multiple long-term care and subacute units, requiring strong clinical skills, certifications, and compliance with facility-specific policies.
