Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA)
Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room RN First Assist)
- Unit: 30 Bed Operating Room Unit for Adults
- Shift: 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each (06:45 AM - 5:15 PM)
- Call: Weekday and weekend on-call duties required (rotating schedule, self-scheduled)
- Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
- Floating: No floating outside scope of practice
- Block Scheduling: Cannot guarantee block scheduling
- Locals: Not accepted within 75-mile radius
- Pending License: Accepted if active license is obtained before start
- RTO Restrictions: None
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in West Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of First Assist experience, including experience within the last year
- Operating Room (OR) experience, including Pediatric OR
- OR Circulate experience
- OR Scrub RN experience
- Experience working with Pediatric patients
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License and Social Security Card required
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
- Various background screenings including SSN trace, sex offender search, national and international checks if applicable
- Pass/fail testing required for nursing candidates (EKG, medication calculation, blood administration)
- Annual competencies and color blindness testing required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good health and no physical limitations
- Annual fit mask testing (N95) required; PAPR accommodations available if needed
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap (mandatory, no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titers required)
- Hepatitis B vaccination or titer documentation
- Varicella vaccination or titer documentation
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless approved medical or religious exemption
- COVID-19 vaccination not required (proof or declination accepted)
Additional Notes
- No permanent employees can return as travelers within 2 years of last permanent day worked at this facility
- Flu vaccine refusal without medical proof is not accepted during flu season
- Orientation is two days (Thursday and Friday) with specific training modules including Cerner Infusion Management
- Candidates must complete required facility-specific documents and training modules prior to start
- Candidates must submit a complete packet including work history, specialty skills checklist, references, license/certification verification, driver’s license, and social security card
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with pediatric and women’s specialty experience who are comfortable with on-call duties and working in a fast-paced, acute care teaching hospital environment.
