Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PICU

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PICU)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Floating: Mandatory float within scope as needed by the facility
  • Local Candidates: Accepted and preferred within a 75-mile radius
  • Time Off (RTO): Maximum 5 days, no more than 2 consecutive; no time off on or around holidays or weekends

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Bystander Intervention Training Certificate
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Facility Highlights

  • Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Electronic charting system used: Cerner
  • Scrub color: Any color allowed

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, annual renewal required
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or signed declination)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
  • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually

Background and Documentation

  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Federal and state exclusion lists (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) within 30 days of start
  • Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry verification (not required for RNs)
  • Various facility-specific forms and competency exams required prior to start
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and color blindness testing required within 12 months of start

Additional Notes

  • No prior travel experience required for this position
  • Locals preferred but travel nurses are welcome
  • Floating is mandatory as per facility policy
