Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry Unit (Night Shift)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Work Environment

  • 45-bed medical/surgical trauma unit focused on acute and chronic care for hemodynamically and medically stable trauma patients.
  • Fast-paced specialty medical/surgical unit admitting patients from ED, ICU transfers, or surgical/procedural services.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare).
  • Float requirement: Travelers must be prepared to float frequently within scope to various units including trauma, neuro, observation, and others, potentially including a nearby campus.
  • Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs.
  • 100% nicotine-free facility.
  • Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat).
  • Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.

Shift Details

  • Night shift only: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM).
  • Option for 36 or 48-hour work weeks available.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start; booking delayed if not).
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience required, specifically in a large, urban hospital setting.
  • EPIC electronic charting experience required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Drip medication administration experience required on all floors.
  • First-time travel nurses not accepted unless they have 2 years experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required as applicable per unit.
  • PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification, and Medication/Pharmacology competency exams required as applicable.
  • Annual skills checklist required.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county, statewide, and federal checks.
  • Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually (instant tests not accepted).
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific mask models required).
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap within last 10 years
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (boosters if low/equivocal)
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination
    • Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters if low/equivocal)
    • Annual PPD or equivalent TB testing, chest x-ray if history positive, plus TB questionnaire annually
  • Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required.
  • COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemptions or declinations accepted.
  • Eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here).

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Government-issued photo ID required.
  • Must submit 2 professional references from the past 2 years (one from most recent employer if not currently traveling).
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required.
  • Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required prior to start.
  • State-specific registry checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Parking available via permit (~$55/month) or daily rates.
  • Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation).
  • Locals not accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from facility.
  • RTO (request time off) allowed up to 2 weeks, must be submitted with application; additional requests at manager discretion.
  • RTO blackout dates due to local event: June 11–22, 2026.
