Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Details

• Float required
• Work schedule includes 2 weekends per month or every other weekend
• Patient ratios: 1:1 in CVICU; 1:2-3 in ICU
• No time off allowed during specified holidays (including major holidays and local breaks); holiday time off requests may be addressed onsite after arrival

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted; actual certificate required (no screenshots/photos); must not expire within 45 days of assignment start
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted; actual certificate required; must not expire within 45 days of assignment start
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification) - actual downloaded certificate required; must not expire within 45 days of assignment start

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current ACLS certification
• Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Current NIHSS certification

Competency Requirements

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required)
• Competency Exam (required)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for all RNs; must score 80% or higher; exceptions apply to some units but not CVICU)
• Core Competency Exams Part I, II, and III (required; minimum 80% pass rate; updated annually)
• Color Blind Testing (required within 12 months prior to start; must score 100%)

Health and Background Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by MD, DO, NP, APRN, or PA confirming fitness for duty
• Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year; T-spots not accepted; if prior positive, clear chest x-ray within 10 years plus questionnaire required
• TB Questionnaire (required)
• Immunizations/vaccinations or positive titers required for:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, titer, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Seasonal Flu Vaccine required for starts on or after 9/8/2025 (no declinations accepted; exemptions only for medical or religious reasons with proper documentation)
• Drug testing within 45 days of start (includes a comprehensive panel of substances; MRO signature required)
• Background check completed within 45 days of start, including 7-year SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, abuse registry, and federal/statewide searches as specified
• Two supervisory references from employers within the last 3 years
• Employment application with 7-year work history and no unexplained gaps over 30 days

Documentation and Onboarding

• Valid driver’s license or state ID (color copy, current)
• Photo for badge (passport style, solid background, no filters or facial piercings)
• Onboarding attestation and review of facility-specific documents required
• Background Check Alias Name Attestation if applicable
• State license verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
• Skills checklist for unit-specific competencies within the last year, updated annually

Additional Notes

• Must comply with facility policies regarding holiday time off and documentation submission deadlines
• Orientation provided bi-weekly
• Facility requires strict adherence to certification and competency expiration timelines (upload renewals 5 days prior to expiration)
