Work Schedule
- 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM)
- Scheduled day off based on department needs; special requests considered
- Occasional scheduled late shifts a few times per month
- No on-call required
- Possibility of floating within Perioperative facility as needed
- Block scheduling available at manager’s discretion
Specialty
- Surgical Services (Ambulatory OR)
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in specialties including Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, ENT, Gynecology, Genitourinary, Endocrine, Surgical Oncology, Plastics, Robotics, Total Joints
- Unit does not handle general surgery, Labor & Delivery, or pediatrics
- Candidates should be well-rounded in the listed specialties
- Prior travel experience not accepted for first-timers (first-timers not accepted)
Licensure and Certifications
Requirements/Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of experience
- Recent Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
- National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA) certification required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA only)
Patient Care Responsibilities
- Preoperative and postoperative patient care in a fast-paced ambulatory surgical environment
- Pre-op duties include patient prep: history review, medication reconciliation, vital signs, EKGs, IV starts, blood sugar checks, medication administration
- Post-op duties include monitoring vital signs through anesthesia recovery phases, reviewing discharge instructions, and assisting with patient discharge via wheelchair
- Work closely with surgeons, anesthesia, and OR nurses
Unit and Facility Details
- Pre/Post Anesthesia Care Unit with 10 RNs and 1 Patient Care Technician
- 20 bays for pre/post patients, 2 ORs, 2 GI procedural rooms, 1 Vascular Interventional Radiology (VIR) procedural room
- Patient population includes Orthopedics (total joints, arthroscopy, hand, shoulder, elbow), Interventional Radiology, and GI scopes
Local Candidate Policy
- Local candidates accepted within a 60-mile radius
Time Off Requests (RTO)
- All time off requests must be submitted at time of application
- Approval based on facility needs
- Multiple RTO requests within the 8-13 week contract likely to be denied
- Facility may call off up to 10 hours per 2-week period (equivalent to one shift)
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and completed form)
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
- Copy of Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Background check covering last 7 years with multiple searches (SSN trace, state, national, sex offender registry, FACIS, international if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- Employment application/resume and proof of 2 clinical references
- Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or as many as applicable)
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Radiation badge process must be completed before starting clinical work
- Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed prior to start
- Passport-style photo for badge
Health and Safety Requirements
- Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
- Immunizations and titers required or documentation of immunity for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (positive titer or vaccines)
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if prior positive
- Annual TB questionnaire
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (August 1 – March 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
