Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 32 beds
  • Mixed acuity patients including medical diagnoses and pre/post-surgical care
  • Schedule: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, 36 hours/week, every other weekend

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Job Expectations

  • Float and call responsibilities required
  • Teaching hospital experience is welcomed
  • One pre-approved time-off request allowed per contract

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check (including FBI and BCI fingerprinting) required within 90 days of start
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
  • Various health documents required including:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Immunizations and titers (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season
  • Annual competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (with remediation process if needed)
  • State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Scrub color and details provided at orientation
  • Parking permits available for purchase (details not included here)
  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
