Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Patient Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse role
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
- Weekend requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
- Floating required within scope to various units including Emergency Department and other Medical-Surgical/Telemetry units
- Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
- First-time travelers accepted
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of PCU (Progressive Care Unit) Registered Nurse experience, including experience within the last year
- Telemetry and cardiac telemetry experience
- ER holding experience
- Rapid Response Team participation experience
- Clinical experience with post-cardiac procedures, angiogram, post-MI, cardiac cath, and cardiac surgery
- IV insulin protocol experience
- Pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care experience
- IV therapy and phlebotomy experience, including blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care and management experience
- Cardiac drips management experience (including no titration and titration)
- PCA and procedural sedation administration experience
- Neurological/psychiatric care experience, specifically stroke (CVA) care
- Orthopedic post-procedural care including peripheral nerve block catheters and total joint replacements
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) certification
Schedule and Work Conditions
- Floating between departments and units as needed
- No block scheduling accommodation
- Local candidates not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
- No pending licenses accepted
- Return to work restrictions: no more than 7 days
- Guaranteed minimum hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Required Background and Compliance Checks
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required
- Fingerprinting required for certain assignments (especially in Illinois long-term care or rehab units)
- State-specific background checks as applicable
Required Health and Immunization Documents
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) annually required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as required
- Drug testing within 1 year, including specific drug panels
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
Required Facility-Specific Documents and Training
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- HIPAA acknowledgement annually
- Latex allergy questionnaire annually
- Confidentiality form annually
- Regulatory compliance education and quiz annually (must score 80% or higher)
- Hepatitis B declination annually
- TB questionnaire annually
- Hand hygiene and fingernail policies reviewed and signed prior to start
- Dress code policy reviewed and signed prior to start
- Orientation modules completed through online platform (approximately 16 hours) prior to start
References and History
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application required
- Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start
- Performance evaluations may be requested but not required for extensions or per diem
Additional Notes
- On-call is not required
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams required as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 12 months prior to start
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required if applicable
