Job Description
- Provide nursing care in Pre-Operative and Phase II Recovery settings for both inpatients and outpatients, ending with discharge home.
- Patient diagnoses include general surgery (lap chole, appendectomy, bowel resection), vascular procedures, plastics, mandibular surgery, eye procedures, gynecology, dental, thoracic (excluding open heart), podiatry, orthopedics, and occasionally pre-op for cath lab (vascular procedures only) and endoscopy.
- Approximately 3-4% pediatric patients; travelers without pediatric experience will not be assigned to pediatrics.
- Float pool required; may be asked to float to other units or facilities within reasonable distance.
- Work settings include ambulatory/outpatient, inpatient, phase II recovery, pre-op, and post-op care.
- Use of EPIC electronic health record system is required.
- Skills required include cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition/management.
- Surgery cases primarily ENT, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics/spine/total joints, and urology; cardiac, plastics, podiatry, robotics, thoracic, and transplant cases are preferred.
- Administer narcotics/opioid analgesics and reversal agents.
- Provide pre/post-op care including discharge instructions, assessments, education, and medication administration.
- Professional skills include pain assessment and management.
- Breathing treatments and CPAP/BiPAP may be involved.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington
- Minimum 1 year of Pre-Op nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Experience in ENT, General Surgery, OB/GYN, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics (including Total Joints), and Urology surgery cases
- Experience with reversal agents
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
- Experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings
- Dysrhythmia recognition and management skills
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Additional Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- TB test or chest X-ray (annual updates required)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccine or declination
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start.
- Respirator clearance required annually for travel staff.
- Background checks including state-specific searches and education verification.
- Employment references covering at least 1 year within the last 3 years.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years.
- Skills checklists and competency exams as applicable.
- Completion of required regulatory and specialty-specific training modules prior to start.
- Compliance with float policy acknowledgment.

- Ambulatory/outpatient and inpatient surgical settings.
- Exposure to a variety of surgical specialties and patient populations.
- Use of advanced monitoring and electronic health record systems.
- May require floating to different units or facilities.

- Scrubs are provided.
- This position does not accept first-time travel nurses.
- Pediatric experience required to be assigned pediatric patients.
