Location: Hazard, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care for Medical-Surgical (MS), Telemetry (Tele), and observation patients.
- Patient-to-nurse ratio typically 1:6 or 1:7.
- Float within scope of practice as needed.
- Work schedule includes every other weekend.
- Blocked scheduling is not available.
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
- Must reside within 75 miles of the facility.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kentucky.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum 2 years of Telemetry nursing experience, with Telemetry experience within the last year.
- American Heart Association ACLS certification.
- American Heart Association BLS certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (AHA Instructor/Provider/RQI)
- ACLS (AHA Instructor/Provider/RQI)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RN specialties except OR and Psych)
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for all units except Psych, OR, Rehab, and true Med Surg)
- Core Competency Parts I, II, and III
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Health & Background Requirements
- Annual physical exam or physician statement confirming ability to work without restrictions.
- Negative TB test (QuantiFERON Blood Test) within one year prior to start; annual requirement.
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (specific panel required).
- Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption.
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, fugitive, and county searches covering the last 7 years.
- Employment history verification for the past 7 years.
- Two professional references within one year of start date (one must be a supervisor or higher).
Additional Information
- Must complete all required attestations and verifications prior to start.
- Must comply with facility-specific policies and documentation requirements.
- PAPRs (Powered Air Purifying Respirators) cannot be accommodated.
- Religious or medical exemptions for mask fit testing and flu vaccine can be reviewed onsite.
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong Medical-Surgical and Telemetry skills who are flexible with scheduling and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
