Women's Services RN - Travel Assignment
Location: Nampa, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an RN with 3+ years of experience in Women's Services (Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and OR Circulation/Triage) for a 13-week travel assignment. Nurses will work 12-hour shifts.
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 3 years L&D experience (1 year experience may be accepted)
- Experience with Postpartum (mother-baby care preferred)
- Ability to attend deliveries and provide 1 hour of newborn care
- Experience in triage, circulating C-sections, and postpartum couplet care
- Experience with magnesium sulfate administration
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Ability to titrate drips (Pitocin, Magnesium, Insulin occasionally)
- Must be able to stabilize newborns, perform physical assessments, and provide care within first 2 hours
Certifications Required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- STABLE certification
Unit Details
- 14 LDRP beds (patients stay in the same room)
- 2 OR suites for C-sections (RNs circulate and recover)
- 4 triage beds staffed by travelers
- Approximately 90 births per month (1200 per year)
- Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines:
- Labor: 1:1 (can pair 2 cervical ripening patients)
- Postpartum: 1:3 couplets
- Triage: 1:3 (up to 4 with resource nurse support)
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Gestation 32 weeks and greater
- Hypertension requiring magnesium sulfate
- BACs (Blood Alcohol Concentrations)
- TOLACs (Trial of Labor After Cesarean)
- Gestational diabetes
- Antepartum patients (no placenta previa or accreta)
- Diverse patient population, including many referred from home birth midwives for medical intervention and pain control
Staffing & Support
- OB hospitalist and Neonatal NP available 24/7
- Anesthesia available 24/7
- Respiratory therapy available for troubleshooting (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow)
- No tele/monitor techs; RNs read their own strips
- EFM system: Centricity
- Charge RNs do not take patient assignments; resource and triage nurses assist with breaks and deliveries
- 1 CST (surgical tech) per shift
- 1 CNA per shift (may be reassigned if needed)
Scheduling & Shifts
- 12-hour shifts: 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am
- Resource and charge nurse shifts: 6:45am-6:45pm, 6:45pm-6:45am
- Travelers fill schedule gaps; preference considered but no guaranteed block scheduling or working 6 shifts in a row
- No minimum weekend requirement; based on unit needs and requests
- No set holiday requirement for travelers
- No call or standby required
- Floating required to other regional sites within primary skill set or as sitter
Orientation & Policies
- 4 shifts of unit-specific orientation covering C-section, labor, and postpartum care
- Compliance and EPIC Curio assignments must be completed before start
- Hospital-issued scrubs required, must change in/out at beginning/end of shift
- No fingernail lacquer, acrylic, or gel nails allowed due to embedded NICU proximity
- Travel duos require 2 cars due to floating between sites with different scrubs
Additional Notes
- Facility follows AWHONN staffing standards strictly
- Resource nurse acts as "baby catcher" and second sign-off on medications
- Floating includes multiple sites in the Treasure Valley area
- Diverse and medically complex patient population with a focus on safe, high-quality care
