Registered Nurse (RN) – IMCU

Location: Kankakee, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) – 22 private beds

Unit & Patient Care Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 (days and nights)
• Common patient diagnoses: Cardiac conditions, open heart post-op day 3, craniotomies, cardiac catheterizations (radial and femoral), Watchman device, Zephyr valve for COPD, pacemakers, tracheostomies, continuous CPAP/BiPAP, chest tubes, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
• No ventilated patients on this unit
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin (for blood pressure only), insulin, heparin, dopamine/dobutamine with renal dosing
• Respiratory therapy equipment used: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
• RNs read telemetry; centralized telemetry tech support available
• Nurse aids support with blood sugars, vitals, and ADLs (ratio 1:10)
• Charge nurse role: Team lead during the day (does not take patients); charge nurse on nights/weekends/holidays takes patients
• Floating: May float to ICU (PCU level patients) or med-surg (full assignment)

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Illinois RN license in hand (must be current and active)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Valid driver’s license required for submission

Experience & Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Minimum 1 year of Stepdown nursing experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• Valid driver’s license
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Scheduling & Orientation

• Shift schedule: 5 days on, 5 days off
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: Every other holiday
• No call or standby requirements
• Unit-specific orientation: One 12-hour shift
• Scrub color: Caribbean

• Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted
• Facility requires a clinical prescreen; if recommended, hiring manager has 24 hours to accept or decline without a second phone interview
