Registered Nurse (RN) – MS/Telemetry Float Pool

Location: Garden City, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Float pool position covering multiple units within a 60-mile radius zone around Garden City, KS.
• Units include General Medical-Surgical Telemetry and specialties such as Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Orthopedics, Trauma, and ED Observation.
• No home base facility; travelers must be willing and able to float across all facilities within the zone.
• Schedule released 4–6 weeks in advance with two formats:

  • Assigned to a single facility for the week with possible intra-facility floating.
  • Just-In-Time (JIT) assignments given 1–2 hours before shift start.
• Shift: 12-hour day shifts (7 AM – 7 PM).
• Weekend requirement: 6–9 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule.
• Holiday rotation participation may be required.
• Rare call or standby requirements for low census situations.

Patient Population & Care

• Adult to geriatric patients with diagnoses including cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery post-appendectomy, gynecology, psychiatric/detox, ENT, general medicine, and stable long-term placements.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5-6 depending on acuity.
• Charge nurse present on each unit; usually does not take patient assignments except when necessary.
• Nurse aids available on units.
• Respiratory therapy equipment used (vents, CPAP, BiPAP).
• RNs are required to titrate heparin drips.

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license valid in Kansas.
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical Telemetry nursing experience within the last 3 years.
• Preferred experience: Neurology, Alaris infusion pumps, and EPIC electronic health record system.
• Certifications required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – AHA
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Orientation & Hiring Process

• Orientation week requires clinicians to be physically present in-state, even if some modules are completed remotely.
• Hiring process includes an interview with the clinical team; no unit manager involvement.

Additional Information

• Travelers must secure housing that allows floating within the full 60-mile zone.
• Float assignments may include ICU (low acuity holds within skillset), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele units.
• Time-off requests must be submitted before the assignment start date.
• Schedules are managed by leadership; travelers expected to be flexible to fill scheduling gaps.
