Overview
- Specialty: Adult Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Contract length: 15 weeks
- Shift: Nights
- Hours: 36 per week
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 7p-7a
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Every other holiday
- Floating: Float to every level of care; travelers are expected to take a full team
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- CVICU experience within the last year
- 2 years of CVICU experience
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Ability to interpret cardiac strips
- Ability to titrate vasoactive and sedative drips
Preferred Qualifications
- ACLS preferred
- CCRN a plus
Clinical Expectations
- Must be able to titrate drips
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
- Must be able to care for complex cardiovascular ICU patients independently from the start
Unit Details
- 20 private, monitored beds
- Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1
- Charge nurses are present 24/7 and may take teams
- House supervisor is present 24/7
- PCT support is available
- Respiratory therapists are available 24/7
- Monitor techs are available
Common Patient Population
- Post open-heart surgical patients
- CABG, valve, CABG/valve, dissections, AAA, vascular procedures, carotids
- Post cardiovascular procedures
- STEMI, unstable angina, unstable N-STEMI
- Cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure
- Targeted temperature management
- Transcutaneous pacing, transvenous pacing
- TAVRs
- Cardiac-related ICU patients, including ventilated patients and overflow patients from other ICUs
Equipment and Treatments
- IABPs, Impellas, Swan-Ganz, ECMO, external pacemakers, CRRT
- PICC lines, midlines, CVCs, Swan lines, arterial lines
- Ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, heated high flow, nitric oxide
- Temporary pacemakers
- Multiple titratable drips, including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epi, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
