Travel ER RN Opportunity - West Virginia

Assignment Details

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: June
• Shift: 11:00 am – 11:00 pm (36 hours per week)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday for both day and night shifts)
• Holidays: Work in holiday rotation with permanent staff
• Floating: No floating outside of the Emergency Department (ED)
• Orientation: Floor-specific, 1-3 shifts with a preceptor

Facility & Unit Information

• Beds: 33 total
• ER Setup: Triage area with a separate Fast Track open 11 am – 11 pm
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • General ER: 1:4
  • Lower acuity 5-bed area: 1:5
  • Fast Track: 1:4-6
• Nurse Aides: ER Techs available (3 per shift, ratio 1:10-12)
• Charge Nurse: Yes, no patient assignment
• Telemetry: Yes, must be able to read and interpret strips
• Ventilators: Yes (Servo)
• EMR System: EPIC

Clinical Support

• ER Providers:

  • 3 physicians on staff 11 am – 11 pm
  • 1 physician for 4 hours on nights
  • 2 physicians the rest of the time
  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) also utilized
• Respiratory Therapy (RT): In-house 24/7; RNs may perform aerosols for non-vented patients
• IV Team: Available hospital-wide until 10 pm Monday-Friday, until 3:30 pm on weekends
• Pharmacy: 24/7 in-house pharmacy; no pharmacist in ER, uses Accudose system

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Typical ER patients including:

  • Chest pain
  • Respiratory failure
  • Abdominal pain
  • 15% pediatric population
  • Occasional gunshot wounds (GSW), closed head injuries
• Major trauma patients stabilized and transferred to a Level 1 Trauma Center approximately 40-45 minutes away
• Admission Rate: Approximately 18% of patients
• Average ER Stay: About 2 hours 45 minutes
• Environment: Extremely efficient and positive; traveler-friendly

Certifications & Requirements

• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Preferred Certifications:

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – travelers may take TNCC onsite at their own expense if space allows
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• No false nails allowed
• Scrub Color: Royal Blue

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Emergency Room (ER) Nursing
• Required Years of Experience: 5+ years in ER nursing (based on specialty code "ER - 51" and typical expectations)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
