Job Opportunity: 10E Stepdown Nurse

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Stepdown/MedSurg (Flex unit serving both floor and step-down patients)
• Unit Size: 29 beds (currently under construction, opening Q1 2026)
• Nurse:Patient Ratios:

  • Stepdown: 3:1
  • Floor: 6:1
• Patient Population: Diverse, primarily medical diagnoses

Required Certifications

• ACLS (AHA)
• BLS (AHA)

Experience Requirements

• Open to new and experienced nurses
• Must be able to manage:

  • 6 patients on med-surg floor
  • 3 patients on stepdown unit
• Specialty Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; open to new grads and experienced nurses (no minimum years required)
• Prior travel experience: Not required

Clinical Responsibilities

• RNs will have orders to titrate drips including:

  • Heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics
  • Phenobarbitol, ketamine
  • Morphine/Dilaudid/Fentanyl PCAs
  • TPN
• Respiratory Equipment:

  • CPAP, BiPAP on floor and stepdown
  • HiFlow and vents in stepdown (vent settings adjusted by ICU)
• Telemetry:

  • Remote telemetry surveillance center with central monitoring
  • RNs are not required to read their own strips
  • Equipment: Phillips telemetry monitors

Staffing and Support

• Charge Nurses and House Supervisors available 24/7
• Charge RNs may take patient assignments initially but goal is to have a free charge RN
• Nurse Aids (Clinical Associates) present with goal ratio of 1:10 (3 CAs at all times)

Scheduling and Work Hours

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
• Scheduling: Block scheduling not guaranteed but requests accommodated when possible
• Weekend Requirements: Agency RN positions posted as weekend shifts
• Holiday Requirements: Expect to work about half of recognized holidays
• Call/Standby: None required
• Floating: First to float or be pulled to other floor/stepdown units

Orientation

• Unit-specific orientation provided
• Weekend night shifts available: Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday, 7pm-7:30am

Dress Code

• Royal blue and white scrubs (any combination)

Contract Length

• 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

This position is suitable for nurses comfortable with med-surg and stepdown care, including titrating drips and managing complex patients in a newly opening unit.
