Unit Information

• Unit: 631/East Progressive Unit
• Number of Beds: 15
• Number of Staff: 22 (RN/PCT)
• Patient Ratios: 4-5 patients per RN
• Type of Staff:

  • Day Shift: 3-4 RNs, 2 PCTs, 1 Clinical Coordinator
  • Night Shift: 3-4 RNs, 1 PCT
• Equipment Used:

  • Cardiac Telemetry
  • Chest tubes
  • Cardiac drips (NTG, Cardizem, Amiodarone)
  • Post Cath Patients
  • Post-surgical patients (including open heart, lung, general surgery, orthopedic)

Required Skills and Experience

Must Have:

• PCU experience
• Knowledge of cardiac rhythms and surgical patients
• Chest tube management and epidurals

Preferred:

• Teamwork ability
• Time management skills, especially with high patient turnover

Typical Procedures Performed

• Post cardiac catheterization
• Electrophysiology studies
• Device placements
• Groin management
• Chest tube management
• Post-operative care for surgical patients
• Administration of critical drips, epidurals, PCA

Personality Fit

• Willing to go above and beyond for patients

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Required Skills and Experience

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Information

• Floating Areas: ICU (taking PCU type patients), PCU, Med-surg (taking 5 patients)
• Dress Code: Navy or white scrubs, can mix or match
• Weekends and On-call: Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts
