Unit Details

• Number of Beds: 36
• Patient Ratios:

  • 1:3 AM
  • 1:4 AM or 1:4 PM
  • 1:5 PM (with patient care techs)
• Staffing:

  • Primarily RN-based care; techs available only when unit is stretched
  • Unit secretaries scheduled 7am-7pm for support
• Equipment Used:

  • BiPAP
  • Heated High-Flow Nasal Cannulas
  • Alaris IV pumps
  • Kangaroo Feeding Pumps
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling:

  • Full-time: 36 hours/week with every 3rd weekend rotation
  • Part-time: 48 hours/week with every 3rd weekend rotation
  • PRN 1: 3 shifts in 4 weeks, including 1 weekend shift
  • PRN 2: 6 shifts in 4 weeks, including 3 weekend shifts
  • Rotating holiday schedule
• Floating Policy:

  • PRN floats once per week
  • FT/PT staff float on a rotation basis
  • Bonus shifts float first
• Patient Experience Requirements:

  • Bedside shift report
  • Hourly rounding
  • Daily leadership rounds

Hospital Certifications & Accreditations

• Level 2 Trauma Center
• Stroke Accreditation
• STEMI Accreditation
• Certified Bariatric Center

Required Qualifications

• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Licenses: Registered Nurse License
• Additional: NIH Certification preferred
• Skills:

  • Advanced assessment and critical thinking
  • Management of vasoactive drips

Typical Procedures on Unit

• Central Line or PICC line placement
• Chest tube placements

• Dress code:

  • Charcoal grey scrub tops with charcoal grey or black scrub bottoms
  • Black or charcoal grey jackets (unit-specific jackets optional)
