Job Opportunity: Scientist - Lab (Travel)

Location: Shreveport, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Work Schedule: 7 days on / 7 days off, Wednesday to Tuesday, 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM (with flexibility and potential to change)
Temp to Perm: Possible


Job Summary

Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures including specimen processing, testing patient specimens, quality control, instrument operation and maintenance, and assisting with new procedure development. May perform phlebotomy and other patient-oriented tasks.


Responsibilities

  • Perform all routine and complicated laboratory procedures in assigned sections, considering age- and sex-specific values.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on laboratory instruments; notify Bio-med if needed.
  • Cross-train in other laboratory sections as required.
  • Follow the laboratory’s quality control program.
  • Calculate, enter, and verify laboratory results.
  • Use Laboratory Information System for documentation.
  • Notify and document critical laboratory values.
  • Process patient specimens with attention to minimal pediatric specimen volumes when applicable.
  • Participate in evaluation, development, and implementation of new or updated testing procedures and protocols.
  • Demonstrate competence in patient care responsibilities tailored to population-specific and developmental needs.
  • Adapt patient assessment and care methods to accommodate physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and developmental needs.
  • Adhere to organizational core values and complete all compliance and regulatory tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, OR
  • Equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489 (including U.S. Military laboratory training of at least 50 weeks), OR
  • Education evaluated by an acceptable credentialing agency as equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field.

Experience

  • No experience required for graduates of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by NAACLS or other HHS-approved organizations, OR
  • Minimum 1 year of approved clinical laboratory experience including clinical rotations in Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids within the last 5 years.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certification as MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS. Certification must be current if it has an expiration date.
  • Louisiana State Licensure is required.
  • New graduates must be board certified or eligible (must complete board certification within 1 year of hire; Louisiana excluded).

  • No on-call requirement.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
