Registered Nurse - Operating Room (Travel)
Location: Carlsbad, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday (5x8 hour shifts)
Call Requirements:
- Minimum 1 weekday call per week
- Weekend rotation required
- On-call shifts Monday to Friday 3:30 PM – 7:00 AM, Saturday and Sunday 7:00 AM – 7:00 AM
Job Description
The Operating Room Nurse demonstrates critical thinking, scientific judgment, and leadership in planning and providing patient care in the operating room. As part of the surgical team, the RN collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other OR personnel to deliver care according to nursing standards and hospital policies. Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring availability of supplies
- Managing case timeliness
- Communicating with patient families
- Updating physician preference cards
- Scrubbing and assisting physicians during surgical procedures
- Supervising personnel delivering patient care
The unit has 6 operating rooms with approximately 250 procedures per month. Patient ratio is 1:14.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) RN experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience with general OR procedures
- Experience in Orthopedics, Obstetrics/Gynecology (OBGYN), Podiatry, Plastic Surgery, Endocrinology, Endoscopy, Trauma, and DaVinci robotics
- Experience working with both adult and pediatric patients
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
