Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (Telemetry)
- Location: Frankfort, KY
- Employment Type: Travel
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Information
- Unit: Progressive Care (Telemetry)
- Number of Beds: 46
- Patient Ratios: 4:1 to 5:1
- Staffing: Clinical Nurse Coordinators (charge nurse), RNs, PCTs, Nurse Externs, Unit Clerks (skill mix based on patient census)
- Scheduling: Three 12-hour shifts per week, every other weekend
- Floating Policy: May float to 3 South (post-surgical med/surg) or PCU (tele overflow)
- Documentation System: Meditech Expanse
- Equipment Used: GE Apex Pro Telemetry box, Hoyer lift, Sara Steady, Baxter IV pumps, iMobile, Alaris PCA IV pump, Welch Allen Vitals machine, Glucometer
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 2 years hospital experience
- At least 2 years of Progressive Care or ICU experience
- Active Kentucky RN license at submission
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Current NIH certification (must be renewed annually)
Clinical Skills
- Telemetry and EKG interpretation
- Post-Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) experience
- Management and titration of cardiac and anti-arrhythmic IV infusions
- CPap and BiPap management
- Port access and therapeutic phlebotomy
Preferred Advanced Skills
- Chest tubes, NG tubes, wound vac, drains
- Post-dialysis assessment
- Central lines
- Blood transfusions
Procedures Performed on Unit
- Telemetry monitoring
- Paracentesis (physician-led)
- BiPap therapy
- Therapeutic phlebotomy
Certifications Required
- Active nursing license in good standing (compact license accepted if applicable)
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIH certification (annual)
Dress Code
- Navy blue or gray scrubs only
- No T-shirts, fleece jackets, or sweatshirts
- Scrub jackets and long sleeve shirts under scrub tops may be any color or pattern
- Royal blue scrubs are prohibited (reserved for OB/LD staff)

- Strong teamwork with excellent interdisciplinary communication and collaboration
- Unit uses GroupMe for communication and team celebrations
- Several travelers have extended contracts due to positive work environment
- Zero turnover among Progressive Care nursing staff since September 2022
- Fully supported by a director, manager, and clinical educator
- Open to feedback and suggestions from all staff to improve workflow and patient care
- Continuously acquiring new equipment and supplies to enhance patient care
