Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse

Overview

• Travel assignment in West Union, Iowa.
• 13-week contract.
• 36 guaranteed hours per week.
• 12-hour night shift: 5:00 PM - 5:30 AM.
• Every other weekend and holiday rotation.
• Facility cannot accommodate block scheduling.
• Float scope: Critical Access Hospital; float to like units as needed.
• On-call only if agreeable due to low census; call back only in an emergency, with a 30-minute response time.

Required Qualifications

• Iowa RN license.
• AHA BLS.
• AHA ACLS.
• AHA PALS.
• 2+ years of specialty experience.
• Previous experience working in a Critical Access Hospital.
• Ability to work independently in MedSurg.
• Ability to work in charge nurse capacity as back-up.
• Must have taken care of someone younger than age 18.

Preferred Qualifications

• EPIC experience.
• Previous charge experience.

Unit Information

• Medical-Surgical unit in a Critical Access Hospital.
• 25-bed Critical Access Hospital.
• Med/Surg unit has 20 beds.
• Med/Surg census is typically 8-10.
• Typical patient mix includes skilled care level, acute, observation, and same-day surgical patients.
• Med/Surg nurse-to-patient ratio is up to 1:5, typically 1:3-4.
• OB unit has 4 LDRP beds and 1 post-partum/c-section prep bed.

Additional Notes

• AHA PALS is required because the Med/Surg floor occasionally has a pediatric patient.
• Traveler is guaranteed set hours per week except during holidays when the unit is closed.
• Candidate must start the medical portion of compliance within 48 hours of accepted offer, or within 24 hours for a quick start.
