Registered Nurse (RN) - Telemetry (Med Surg/Tele Unit)

Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to a designated group of patients on a Med Surg/Telemetry unit. Deliver care based on nursing theory, research, evidence-based practice, and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Deliver patient care using Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
• Assess and evaluate patient needs; apply critical thinking in care management.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team on care plans.
• Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
• Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
• Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.

Patient Experience

• Facilitate admission welcome, bedside shift report, purposeful hourly rounding, medication review, discharge wrap-up, and MD/RN collaboration.
• Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Use evidence-based practices to improve patient perception of care.
• Address patient/family concerns and escalate as needed.
• Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.

Quality and Safety

• Practice safe, patient-centered care; identify and escalate barriers.
• Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
• Implement process improvement strategies and participate in peer reviews.
• Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
• Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
• Report safety hazards following institutional protocols.
• Document nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement.

Operations

• Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
• Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
• Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
• Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to resource utilization.
• Document accurately in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.
• Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

Requirements

• License/Certifications: NYS RN License, BLS, ACLS, Telemetry, Ventilator certifications.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years RN experience; minimum 2 years telemetry and critical care experience.
• Travel Experience: 1 year travel experience required for travel positions; not required for per diem.
• Skills: EPIC experience highly preferred.
• Unit Details: 24 beds, average census 22, staffing ratio 1:5.
• Schedule: 3x12 hour shifts, weekends required.

Contract Length

• Approximately 13 weeks (89 days rounded to nearest week).
