Job Description

• Assessment Skills:

  • Competent knowledge of growth and development stages from Pediatric to Geriatric.
  • Performs thorough, systematic, comprehensive, and accurate patient assessments.

• Clinical Skills:

  • Provides competent and appropriate nursing care to the unit’s patient population.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in emergency equipment and procedures.
  • Performs direct patient care activities supporting patient care delivery and team collaboration.

• Documentation:

  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation following guidelines.
  • Responsible for documenting nursing process components and patient progress, including patient education.

• Professionalism:

  • Demonstrates professional practice responsibility.
  • Knowledgeable of policies and procedures and identifies areas for clinical and professional growth.

• Patient Satisfaction:

  • Responds professionally and courteously to patients, families, and co-workers.
  • Promotes a patient- and family-centered care environment.
  • Maintains confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.

• Safety:

  • Follows National Patient Safety Goals and Universal Protocol.
  • Uses two patient identifiers consistently.
  • Demonstrates safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self and patients.

• Unit-Specific Functions:

  • Knowledge of conditions, diagnoses, procedures, and equipment for surgical patients.
  • Individualizes patient care based on procedure and anesthesia type.
  • Assesses patient reactions and understanding of procedures and instructions.

• Responsibility and Accountability:

  • Contributes to the perioperative team by prioritizing and directing patient care based on patient needs and condition changes.

• Patient Education and Chart Completion:

  • Assesses patient understanding of surgical procedures and instructions.
  • Includes patients and families in teaching.
  • Performs pre-operative and postoperative assessments and education.

• Duties Specific to Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) RN:

  • Supports timely completion of patient testing.
  • Evaluates PAT orders for appropriateness and potential omissions based on surgery, patient age, and health status.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
• BLS Certification (Required)
• Active RN License (Required)

• As defined by Occupational Safety/OMS standards
