Job Opportunity: Tech Assistant II

Location: Salinas, California
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: Approximately 13 weeks


Job Description

Under direct supervision, the Tech Assistant II will:

  • Use the PACS system to transmit and print/burn CDs of patient imaging studies.
  • Transport and assist patients, including lifting and moving patients as needed.
  • Perform routine clerical duties such as preparing charts for interventional procedures.
  • Obtain and enter patient demographics, financial data, and other pertinent information into computer systems.
  • Provide necessary patient preparation for imaging procedures.
  • Work with Radiologists and Nurses to schedule interventional cases.
  • Prepare and process initial paperwork and identification bands.
  • Schedule exams for multiple modalities including PT/CT, CT, MRI, NM, US, Angio, X-ray, and Mammography.
  • Obtain authorizations and provide billing codes for physician offices.
  • Assess medical necessity for Medicare patients and obtain required signatures and copies of insurance, Medicare, and medical cards.
  • Follow regulations related to Medicare Secondary Payer and the Three Day Rule.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
  • Assist physicians with viewing images on the PACS system.
  • Record subpoenas and legal documentation for the Radiology Department.
  • Assist technologists with patient flow and other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Schedule exams with physician offices, obtain authorizations, CPT codes, and ICD-9 codes for Medicare patients.
  • Interview and pre-register patients for PET/CT, MRI, US, and CT exams.
  • Register, interview, and screen patients into ITS and Meditech systems.
  • Coordinate child and adult sedation with anesthesiology and notify relevant departments.
  • Review diagnostic imaging orders to verify accuracy.
  • Prepare paperwork, consents, questionnaires, and identification bands for procedures.
  • Greet and register patients, obtain insurance and identification cards.
  • Determine and enter patient’s primary and secondary payors.
  • Initiate and explain required documents and obtain patient signatures.
  • Transport patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or walking.
  • Answer telephone calls professionally and courteously.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties such as filing x-ray jackets and scanning signed orders.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population served.
  • Experience working with PACS systems and multiple imaging modalities.
  • Strong clerical and organizational skills.
  • Professional and friendly phone communication skills.
  • Ability to assist patients physically as needed.
