Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg)
  • Shift: 36 or 48 hour weeks available
  • Schedule: Must be available for the first 8 days of assignment; will work every other weekend
  • Floating: Will float to other Med/Surg units approximately once per week, depending on unit needs
  • Staff Collaboration: Must be willing to work with a variety of staff including RNs, LPNs, and Techs
  • Block Scheduling: Cannot guarantee or approve block scheduling at this time

Unit Description

  • 37-bed Medical, Surgical, Oncology Unit (C5)
  • Patient types include general medical diagnoses and specialized care for gastrointestinal, urological, and gynecological surgeries (e.g., hysterectomies, mastectomies)
  • Other specialties seen include ortho/neurovascular, cardio/pulmonary, and surgical patients
  • Staffing ratio: 1:5-6 for night shifts; may flex to 1:8 with LPN support

Requirements

Licensure & Certifications

  • Michigan RN License (pending license acceptable with ETA provided)
  • BLS (AHA) certification (pending acceptable if willing to obtain)

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years Med/Surg experience preferred (minimum 1 year required)
  • Note: Use the higher value of 2 years as the required experience

Prior Travel Experience

  • No explicit prior travel experience required

Certifications & Competencies (as applicable)

  • ACLS (AHA)
  • BLS (AHA)
  • PALS (AHA)
  • NRP (AAP or American Medical Learning Center)
  • TNCC (required for ER positions)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (annual update required)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (within 1 year prior to assignment, passing score ≥80%)
  • Competency Exam in specialty (within 1 year prior to assignment, passing score ≥80%)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma)
  • Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions (tracking only for this role)
  • Michigan Central Registry Clearance required for specific placements (not specified for this role)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test (Bronson requires Honeywell DC365N95HC; must be completed onsite)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (must include pertussis)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 45 days of start
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required
  • Hepatitis B: titer, series, or facility declination required
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required
  • 10-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC within 45 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation or approved exemption required for candidates starting after November 1

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to work with a variety of staff and float to other Med/Surg units as needed
  • Must work every other weekend
  • Must be available for the entire first 8 days of the assignment

References & Documentation

  • One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required
  • Complete application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps (dated MM/YYYY)
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units

Facility Policies

  • Review and sign Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards Policy prior to start
  • Complete Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • Vaccine exemption forms required if applicable (medical or confidential vaccine exemptions)
