Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Hematology (Non-Malignant)
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in an outpatient hematology clinic focused on non-malignant hematology conditions such as bleeding disorders, hemophilia, anemias, sickle cell, and DVTs.
- No chemotherapy or oncology treatments administered in this clinic.
- Responsibilities include:
- Rooming patients
- Phlebotomy (required skill)
- Central line care
- Assisting with bone marrow biopsies
- Vaccinations
- EKGs
- Phone triage
- Scheduling patients for infusions
- Patient education and case management
- Manual differentials are performed by lab personnel, not RNs.
- RNs must bring their own stethoscope.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (acute oncology/hematology experience considered).
- Phlebotomy skills are a must.
- BCLS certification required.
- Clinic will accept first-time travelers; prior travel experience not required.
- Experience in oncology clinics preferred but not required.
Work Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 5 shifts per week, 8 hours per shift (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM).
- No call, float, or weekend requirements.
- Clinic closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Martin Luther King Day.
Patient Population
- Adult patients with benign hematology diagnoses only (non-malignant).
Orientation & Systems
- Orientation: 24 hours.
- Electronic Medical Record: EPIC (acute activation user access required).
Uniform & Equipment
- Scrubs: Navy blue (not provided).
- RNs must bring their own stethoscope.
Certifications & Competencies
- BCLS required.
- Phlebotomy skills mandatory.
- Other certifications preferred but not required: ONS, BMTCN, OCN.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
- Color Blind Testing within 1 year required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam not required for this clinic setting.
Background & Health Requirements
- Criminal background checks within 90 days of start, including local, federal, national, sex offender, and education verification.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required.
- Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) required.
- Immunizations/titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination), Flu vaccination or approved exemption.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes.
- Flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season or approved exemption with mask-wearing.
Additional Notes
- No RTO (Return to Office) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation.
- Interview with manager required prior to offer.
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel nurses.
- Must complete facility-specific orientation and compliance modules prior to start.
