Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Telemetry Unit

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • Unit: Cardiovascular Unit - Telemetry (3N)
  • 54-bed cardiac telemetry unit
  • Patient population includes heart failure, heart attack (STEMI and NSTEMI), stroke patients requiring cardiac monitoring, cardiac arrhythmias, chest pain, and occasional overflow medical patients
  • Patients are monitored remotely and on the unit, including cardiac drips
  • PCA support available on the unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio may increase to 1:7 temporarily

Schedule & Work Requirements

  • Shift: 4x12 hour day shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Weekend: Every other weekend required
  • Holidays: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays
  • Call: None
  • Block scheduling: Not guaranteed but managers will try to accommodate
  • Guaranteed hours: 36 hours per week

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 1 year as a Registered Nurse (first-time travelers accepted)
  • Prior travel experience: Not required
  • Required Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
    • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification) - Required for all RNs, must be completed through BlueCloud or equivalent

Candidate Requirements

  • Must live at least 50 miles away from the facility (locals not accepted)
  • Background check covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in required within 90 days of start
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
  • Physical exam required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (T-Spots not accepted)
  • Required immunizations or titers:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start (flu documentation must be on file by 12/15)
  • COVID vaccine exemption allowed with medical or religious documentation

Additional Information

  • Charting system: Cerner Powerchart
  • Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
  • On-site EKG exam required for Monitor Techs (not applicable for RN role)
  • Candidates must complete facility-specific modules (~8-10 hours) prior to start; paid time for completion
  • Confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement required before start
