Job Opportunity: RRT-NICU (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Patient Age Group: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults
  • Specialty: Respiratory Therapist with NICU Experience
  • Required Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years in NICU, pediatric critical care, pediatrics, and emergency department (ED)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required (First-timers OK)
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, 6 weekend shifts per schedule (schedule published in 6-week blocks)
  • On-Call: Not applicable

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NC RRT licensure (must have NC RRT license in hand; processing takes 2-4 weeks)

Required Skills and Experience

  • Level IV NICU experience (hard stop requirement)
  • Experience with high-frequency jet ventilator and oscillating ventilator
  • Experience with pediatric cardiac anomalies

Orientation and Scheduling

  • Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
  • Flu vaccination required; no exemptions or declinations accepted

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination every 10 years
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccination or positive antibody titers required (no exemptions)
  • Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer required
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required for new candidates starting October through March (no exemptions)
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)

Background and Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days of start, including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender, education verification, and others as applicable
  • Employment application and 7 years of work history required
  • Two professional references from employment within 12 months, at least one supervisor
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Facility-specific competency checklists (CBOs) to be completed within 3 weeks after start
  • Duke Guest Account setup required prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems

Additional Notes

  • Local candidates within 75 miles considered
  • First-time travelers are welcome
  • No on-call requirement
  • Flu vaccine is mandatory with no exemptions allowed
