Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Float Registered Nurse
Location: Boone, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Dedicated Float RN position covering ICU, Intermediate Care, Stepdown, and MedSurg units based on patient volume
- Schedule: 3x12 hour night shifts (7pm-7am), weekdays with up to 2 weekends per month
- Must be willing to work 2 of the 3 major holidays during the contract
- Flexibility in floating between units is essential
- Blocked schedule requests and 4x12 shifts (with overtime after 48 hours) may be considered if requested at submission
- Patient ratios typically 1:5-6 depending on acuity and unit
Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical Float)
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (higher of 1-2 years stated)
- Prior travel experience required: 2 years travel experience required
- Active North Carolina or Multistate nursing license
- Recent proficiency with EPIC EMR system required
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Must wear all white or all navy scrubs
- Candidates must reside at least 40 miles from the facility (local rule)
Compliance & Documentation
- Government-issued photo ID and driver’s license required for address verification
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Physical exam updated annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) titers or vaccinations within 5 years
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series
- Varicella titer or vaccinations within 5 years
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Drug screening (10-panel including marijuana) within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Required facility-specific orientation and competency exams
- Proof of 2 clinical references required
Additional Notes
- Must be very flexible regarding floating assignments
- Blocked schedule and 4x12 shift requests must be made at time of application
- Badge photo must meet specific facility requirements and be submitted promptly
- Candidates must complete facility-specific self-study orientation and post-test
- Prior travel experience is mandatory for this role
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs who are adaptable and comfortable working across multiple acute care units during night shifts.
