Unit Description

• 23-bed medical surgical unit
• Patient population includes orthopedic, spine, general surgery, bariatric, and some medicine overflow
• Fast-paced environment with 10-20 post-op patients daily
• Cardiac and oxygen monitoring capabilities
• Requires both medical and surgical nursing skillsets
• Float to other units as needed
• Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted

Required Experience

• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
• First-time travelers considered only if experienced with post-op surgical patients, especially Orthopedics and Gastrointestinal surgeries

Required Qualifications

Licensure

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Kentucky

Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) accepted in lieu of PALS
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required for Labor & Delivery (if applicable)
• CHEMO certification (if applicable)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) (if applicable)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card
• NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
• Certification for First Assist RNs (if applicable)
• Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) for certain units including Telemetry
• State License Verification and NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start

Competencies

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%+)
• Color Blind Testing (passing score 80%)
• Unit Specific Competency Exams (annual renewal required)
• Core Parts I, II, III (annual renewal required)
• Conscious Sedation Competency Exam (if applicable)
• RN Math Ability Competency Exam (annual renewal required)

Health and Background Requirements

Health Documents

• Physical Exam within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, or PA
• Fit Mask test within 1 year, updated annually (N95 or equivalent)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray and TB questionnaire (annual renewal)
• Immunity or vaccination for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (annual renewal or exemptions accepted)
• Hepatitis B immunity or declination (annual renewal)
• Drug Testing within 1 year, updated annually (specific drug panels required)
• Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved exemption (annual)
• COVID vaccination series or approved exemption (annual)
• COVID Booster preferred but not required

Background Checks

• Criminal background checks covering last 7 years of residence and work
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and annually
• Education verification or signed official transcript
• Sex offender search within 30 days of start and annually

Additional Requirements

• Two professional references verified within 6 months of start (supervisor or manager preferred)
• Employment verification covering 7 years, with explanations for any gaps over 30 days
• Skills checklists updated annually and valid through contract duration
• Completion of facility-specific policies and agreements prior to start

Prior Travel Experience

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required; first-time travelers may be considered if they have relevant post-op surgical patient care experience
