Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Step Down/PCU)

Location: Lynchburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: PCU/Step Down
  • Shift Options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour day shifts (19:00-17:00)
  • Floating: Required to float to Intermediate and MedSurg units; travelers float first as needed
  • Charge Nurse: Willingness to take charge nurse role if possible
  • Radius Rule: 60 mile radius

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year experience in the unit specialty (Step Down/PCU)
  • Preferred 2-3 years minimum overall nursing experience
  • Prior travel experience required: First-time travelers NOT accepted

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must have RN license (pending certifications considered)
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Other certifications may be applicable based on specialty/unit

Orientation & Training

  • Biweekly orientation sessions on Mondays
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) course available onsite monthly (cost applies)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including SS Trace, County searches (last 7 years), Nationwide, Sex Offender, FACIS Level 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education verification required
  • NURSYS license verification within 2 days of submission
  • Physical exam within 6 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (medical/religious exemptions accepted with mask requirement)
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable
  • Color blind testing (Ishihara) required

Additional Notes

  • Scrubs: Any color, professional appearance; child-friendly prints allowed; scrub/lab coat allowed
  • Nicotine-free campus
  • Submission packet must include: candidate profile, specialty skills checklist, minimum 2 manager/charge references (within past 2 years), RN license verification, and copies of all required certifications

This position is ideal for experienced travel nurses with prior travel assignments in a Step Down or PCU setting who meet the certification and licensure requirements and are comfortable floating to related units.
